Can parents attend trips as chaperones?
Although parents cannot chaperone, they may
attend by making reservations through the Band
Boosters. Parents are most welcome as spectators
at all performances, both here in Bayonne, and
wherever the Band may travel. Only licensed
teachers are permitted to work with students as
chaperones on all school trips.
-
How much does the band's overnight trip cost?
Our trips are always based on our annual
curricular theme and always include musical
activities. The cost of the trip varies depending
on our destination and the Boosters will host
several fund raisers to help students raise
funds. While some overnights can be very
expensive, we do our best to work with families
and help them raise the money for the trip. Our
large overnight trips include Disney World
($400-$600 per student) and New Orleans
($800-$1000 per student) and include everything
except money for souvenirs! We only run overnight
trips every other year, so families usually have
two years to save and raise money for their
students' trip fee. On "off" years where we do
not have large overnight trips we will run
several smaller day trips.
-
Can I attend the Band's overnight trips?
The BHS Marching Band travels each year to
perform at various locations across the country.
Marching Band students are the only students
allowed to attend these trips. Students who do
not follow the attendance rules shall not attend
the annual trip. Grade 8 students, regardless of
their standing in the band, are not permitted to
attend high school over night trips, but may
attend day trips as long as they are not held on
school days.
-
Does band camp cost anything? Is there a band
camp fee?
Yes, there is a small fee of $25 for band camp
which covers the student's first uniform
cleaning, gloves, a subscription to inTune
magazine, and other band expenses. Marching Band
students will also have to pay a small fee for
our first band trip which happens at the end of
band camp, a performance at Dorney Park and Wild
Water Kingdom. The entrance fee is usually about
$20 - $25. All students who participate in camp
will also get a band tour shirt!
-
Do we go away for band camp?
No, band camp is held right here at Bayonne High
School, usually during the last two weeks of
August, just before we return to school.
-
What is Band Camp?
Band Camp is a summer activity where the Marching
Band learns it's half-time show and music. Only
Marching Band members are required to attend,
however Pep Band students are encouraged to
attend the music rehearsal portions of the camp
in order to get a "jump start" on the music.
-
Do I have to march in Marching Band?
No! Freshman students are not required to march
in our Marching Band or Pep Band, however, we ask
that upperclassmen, including sophomores,
juniors, and seniors, choose to participate in
either marching band or pep band. So even as an
upperclassmen, students are not required to
march. For a description of Pep Band and Marching
Band, please go to the
BHS Ensembles
